Was first American citizen to be selected in first round of an NHL draft. ... Missed part of 1982-83 season with sprained right wrist, an injury he suffered in October 1982. ... Did not appear in 1984 Stanley Cup Finals for Edmonton, although he did appear in postseason and had name inscribed on Cup. ... His Edmonton contract expired on July 1, 1984, but Edmonton invited him to 1984 training camp with opportunity to play himself back into NHL. He declined the offer and chose to retire.

TRADE: Montreal traded Chartraw to Los Angeles in exchange for future considerations, which became 1983 second-round pick (Claude Lemieux), on Feb. 17, 1981.
