HOW HE GOT AWAY
FREE AGENCY: Javanainen never signed with Montreal, and because of his advanced age, he was eligible to re-enter the draft after the 1983-84 season. He became a free agent, but had to re-enter the draft because of a rule requiring all Europeans to enter the NHL in this way.
