Miscellaneous:
Fought St. Louis defenseman Bill Baker at 14:38 of first period of his first NHL game. It was Higgins' second NHL shift, and he received a game misconduct for his role in the fight, while Baker was given a double-minor. ... Suspended four games by NHL during 1982-83 season for high-sticking Darryl Sutter during Toronto's Nov. 7, 1982, game at Chicago. Higgins' stick broke Sutter's nose.

Played on Kitchener (OHL) team that won Memorial Cup, but was not with team during postseason or Memorial Cup tournament.
1983-84: Played on ACHL regular-season champion (Carolina).
Miscellaneous: Moved to Mississauga, Ontario, and worked in property maintenance after his retirement. ... Also coached minor hockey in Mississauga during the 1990s.
Higgins Goes to Jail: For the first two years after his retirement in 1984, Higgins was in trouble with the law. First, he was convicted of criminal negligence for his role in a high-speed chase in which police chased him on his motorcycle. He was later sentenced to 60 days in jail for a street fight in which Higgins and another man swung baseball bats, hockey sticks and pipes at one another, although the other man, who also went to jail, was deemed the "major instigator" of the fight.
