HOW HE GOT AWAY
TRADE/ FREE AGENCY: Toronto traded McGill, Steve Thomas and Rick Vaive to Chicago for Ed Olczyk and Al Secord on September 3, 1997. Five years later, Toronto got McGill back when it claimed him on waivers from Tampa Bay on September 9, 1992. Toronto lost McGill a second time when he became an unrestricted free agent after the 1992-93 season and signed with N.Y. Islanders on September 7, 1993.
