HOW HE GOT AWAY
WHA/EXPANSION: Cote did not sign with Montreal after the draft, instead jumping the WHA. When the WHA and NHL merged in 1979, Montreal took him back from Quebec in the NHL Reclaim Draft on June 9, 1979. Montreal then left him unprotected for the 1979 NHL Expansion Draft, and he was claimed by Quebec on June 13, 1979.
