Miscellaneous: Rated in The Hockey News draft preview issue as OMJHL's No. 3 prospect for the 1977 NHL draft. ... Played in first World Junior Championships in Leningrad, an unofficial tournament that helped set stage for first official World Juniors in 1977. ... Missed remainder of 1976-77 season after breaking right leg in Kitchener's Dec. 12, 1976, game vs. Ottawa. The injury required surgery, and Laurence added to the problem by removing his cast before the damage had healed, thereby re-fracturing the leg. At the time of the draft, doctors were unsure if Laurence would ever play hockey again.
