HOW HE GOT AWAY
FREE AGENT COMPENSATION: N.Y. Islanders sent Hansen to Minnesota as compensation for the signing of restricted free agent Jean Potvin on June 13, 1979. Later that day, Minnesota traded Hansen to St. Louis as an addition to the trade that had sent Bryan Maxwell to St. Louis four days earlier in exchange for future considerations (a 1982 second-round pick -- later traded).
