HOW HE GOT AWAY
WHA/WAIVERS: Miller did not sign with N.Y. Rangers after his senior year at the University of Minnesota. Instead, he jumped to the WHA with Calgary. When the NHL and WHA merged in 1979, N.Y. Rangers took Miller back from his last WHA team (New England/Hartford) in the NHL Reclaim Draft on June 9, 1979. N.Y. Rangers later placed him on waivers, enabling him to be claimed by Hartford for a $100 fee (under terms of the 1979 NHL-WHA merger) on Aug. 7, 1980.
