AWARDS AND HONORS
IHL Turner Cup: 1975 (Toledo)
Miscellaneous: Suspended 10 games by IHL for shoving official during
1976-77 season. ... Received lifetime ban from IHL in November 1977 after
receiving two match penalties following Dayton's Oct. 29, 1977, game vs. Port
Huron. Just 15 seconds after the game ended with a 3-2 Port Huron victory,
Trognitz instigated a major brawl when he swung his stick into the head of
Port Huron's Archie Henderson. The blow sent Henderson to the hospital with a
severe head laceration, broken nose and concussion. IHL commissioner Bill
Beagan also said Trognitz's hands had been heavily taped when he injured Port
Huron's Gary McMonagle during the ensuing fight. Trognitz also set an IHL
record (since broken) for penalty minutes in one game with 63. ... Was playing for
Tucson when PHL folded at end of 1978-79 regular season. ... Returned to
Thunder Bay after retirement and worked in the Canadian Coast Guard. ...
Earned Canada's Medal of Bravery in 1999 for participating in rescue of
the Grampa Woo, an American crew boat that was sinking off Ontario
coast near Thunder Bay on Oct. 30, 1996.
