Missed part of 1973-74 season with sprained ankle. ... Worked for Kootenay
Forest Products during off-seasons of his playing days. ... Left hockey after
the 1975-76 season to work as a carpenter and concentrate on his education. ... Career ended
on Oct. 1, 1976, when he fell hundreds of feet down a glacier slope while on a
forest conservation course field trip in the southeastern part of British Columbia.
He suffered a serious head injury and was in a coma for three weeks. He came
out of the coma with temporary paralysis below the waist and was confined to a
wheelchair. ...
Attended Prairie Bible College and became a Christian missionary after his
retirement. In 1981 he went overseas to the Philippines, working in Manila and Olongapo City. He became a key player in Calvary Chapel in Olongapo
City, working to help impoverished street children. ... Suffered from
hepatitis, typhoid fever and malaria while doing his missionary work. |
