Daily 2018 Draft Prospect Updates

April 30, 2018

PROSPECT-UPDATE ARCHIVE

There were only three games involving draft prospects on Monday, and none of them turned in the kind of "top performance" needed for this list. So it's time for a quick player feature.

The spotlight here falls on Halifax Mooseheads winger Filip Zadina, who is ranked right behind Andrei Svechnikov among North American skaters. Zadina is widely expected to be the No. 3 overall pick behind Rasmus Dahlin and Svechnikov. If that's the case, he's going to the Montreal Canadiens.

That's right, Habs fan, you pretty much know what you're getting in next month's first round, and he's a great addition. He has either the best shot of any forward in the draft or the second-best, depending on how you feel about Oliver Wahlstrom. He also has amazing hockey sense in terms of knowing where to be on the ice in the offensive zone. He is not known for his defense, but that can be taught. There's no doubt he will be a force in the NHL someday. He might not get there as fast as Patrik Laine did, but he will get there.

The best thing about Zadina might be his will to win. He does whatever it takes to improve his game -- most notably coming to North America and a year earlier trying to get out of his Czech deal so he could go to Sweden. You can see his natural fire every time he scores -- which is often. He celebrates with a passion that shows how much he wanted it. If you're not sold yet, take a look at his five goals from the 2018 QMJHL playoffs, and see how excited he gets when he scores each of them:
