Kastelic's 10-Game Suspension: Kastelic was suspended by the NHL for 10 games during 1990-91 season because he left the bench and fought Mike Peluso during Hartford's Feb. 10, 1991, game vs. Chicago. Kastelic had been coming onto the ice for a line change after a fight between two other players, but before the puck was dropped for the next faceoff, he began fighting Peluso, who was already on the ice. The following day, the NHL announced a 10-game suspension for Kastelic to demonstrate its strict interpretation of rules against players coming off the bench to fight during breaks in the action. Kastelic also sat out three other games during the 1990-91 season as automatic suspensions for having taken excessive game misconduct penalties.

He developed the program based on European and Russian training techniques he had observed while playing in Slovenia.
Biting Suspension: Kastelic might be best known for a 20-game suspension he received from the AHL in 1988-89. Kastelic was forced to sit out a quarter of the league's season after biting linesman Frank Quigley during Binghamton's Dec. 30, 1988 game at Springfield. The incident took place while Kastelic was fighting Springfield's Rod Dallman. As Quigley tried to break up the fight, Kastelic bit him. Still struggling to get out of Quigley's grasp, Kastelic accidentally hit his forearm against the linesman's head. The incident drew a game misconduct penalty at the time, but AHL president Jack Butterfield and vice-president Gord Anziano both happened to be at the game, and wasted little time in further punishing Kastelic. They announced the automatic 20-game suspension for attempting to injure an official on Jan. 4, 1989. It marked only the second time in AHL history that a player had been suspended for endangering an official. Years earlier, Sherbrooke goalie Warren Skorodenski was suspended for swinging his stick at a referee during a Nov. 20, 1983, game vs. New Haven. Ironically, Kastelic would be at the center of another biting incident several weeks later when he was bitten on the hand by Kevin Kerr during a fight in Binghamton's March 11, 1989, game at Rochester.
Personal: Full name is Edward P. Kastelic.
HOW HE GOT AWAY
TRADE: Washington traded Kastelic and Grant Jennings to Hartford in exchange for Mike Millar and Neil Sheehy on July 6, 1988.
