The recent hiring of 28-year-old Kyle Dubas as assistant general manager
of the Toronto Maple Leafs is another reminder that reliable statistics and
player-related data are now more important than at any point in hockey's
history.
Today's NHL players are all so good, the salary cap so firm, and free-agency
so widespread that it is theoretically possible for a computer algorithm to
put together a great roster. On the business and marketing side, today's
sources of information about the game and its players are so varied and
fragmented that only unique and intriguing content can make even a league or
team's official site stand out from the pack.
To make data-driven hockey decisions or to produce remarkable content for
fans, you need the most reliable sources of information. This often requires
extensive research. A player's injury history, contract/salary history, and
performance alongside specific past coaches and teammates are just a few
areas that are important to fans but require rock-solid reporting rather
than blind faith in Google or a glance at Wikipedia.
With all that in mind, I have turned my decades of professional
journalism experience and hockey research expertise into a business called
Look It Up Hockey,
which is designed
to help everyone from executives, to player agents, to journalists, to
marketers, to fantasy sports players and others retrieve information they
need. Over the years, I have gathered the knowledge and research materials
necessary to reference just about anything related to the universe of hockey
players from the past and present. I would like to be there for those who
can benefit from my help -- and to offer it at an affordable price.
The LookItUpHockey.com site was launched on Aug. 4, 2014, to help people find the historical or current
hockey-related data they seek. I provide a service like
none other and hope for nothing more than to help others shine in their work
by providing them with an informational edge.
If you have any questions about what I plan to offer with the new site, feel
free to e-mail them to me at
