HOW HE GOT AWAY
FREE AGENCY: Wheeldon never signed with Edmonton in the two-year window after the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. As a result, he re-entered the draft in 1986, but was not selected. He became an unrestricted free agent and signed with N.Y. Rangers on May 29, 1987.
