1984 NHL DRAFT PICK
Invalid claim
Made in 11th round
No. 225 overall by Philadelphia Flyers

WHAT HAPPENED
Not paying full attention to the selections ahead of them, Philadelphia representatives called the name of Czech defenseman Petr Rucka of Prague Sparta with their 11th-round pick, which would have officially been No. 225 overall in the draft. Rucka, however, had already been picked by Calgary, 25 selections earlier at No. 200 overall in Round 10. In keeping with draft rules, the Flyers were not allowed to announce another player with their pick and therefore had to forfeit it.

"I'm not upset," Flyers assistant general manager Gary Darling, the man running Philadelphia's draft table, told The Hockey News after the draft. "He's a kid you draft just in case he ever defects. We couldn't see the bottom of the board and they hadn't delivered the ninth-round list yet to our table."
