Scouting Career: Named Calgary European amateur scout prior to 1992-93 season and remained in that position through 1998-99 season. ... Named Dallas European amateur scout prior to 1999-00 season and remained in that position through 2006-07 season.
Miscellaneous: Joined Calgary on Feb. 29, 1988, for balance of 1987-88 season after competing for Czechoslovakia in 1988 Winter Olympics at Calgary. Czech hockey officials agreed to release him to the NHL because he had just turned 30. He signed a contract that ran through the 1988-89 season. ... Played his first NHL game at right wing on line with Joel Otto and Jim Peplinski, becoming first Czech-trained player to play for the Atlanta/Calgary Flames franchise. ... Had assist on game-winning goal in his first NHL game. ... Finished eighth among all NHL rookies with 54 points for Calgary in 1988-89, and tied for second among NHL rookies with plus-19 rating. He was considered a rookie even though he was 30 and had considerable international experience. NHL rules were later changed to prevent players such as Hrdina from qualifying for rookie awards. ...
