Petit's 10-Game Suspension: Petit was suspended by the NHL for Los Angeles' final four 1995 preseason games and the first six games of the 1995-96 season for abusing linesman Randy Mitton while fighting during Los Angeles' Sept. 27, 1995, preseason game vs. Calgary. Under NHL rules, the league was required to give Petit an automatic 10-game suspension. He was immediately suspended while the incident was reviewed by NHL vice-president Brian Burke. The NHL upheld the ruling, and Petit was not allowed to begin his 1995-96 season until Los Angeles' Oct. 21, 1995, game at Pittsburgh.

Was playing for Team Canada in its 1983-84 pre-Olympic tour with intent to play in 1984 Olympics when Vancouver recalled him for good in December 1983. Had he remained with Canada, he would not have played in Olympics as part of same last-minute IOC decision that barred Mark Morrison and Don Dietrich because they, like Petit, had appeared in an NHL game. ... Founded Michel Petit's Pro-formance Hockey after his retirement.
HOW HE GOT AWAY
TRADE: Vancouver traded Petit to N.Y. Rangers in exchange for Willie Huber and Larry Melnyk on November 4, 1987.
