| HOW HE GOT AWAY |
| TRADE (2): Montreal traded Gingras to Toronto
in exchange for the option of either Toronto's 1985 or 1986 second-round pick
(Montreal exercised the option in 1986 and took Benoit Brunet) on December 17,
1982. At the time of the deal, Montreal sent both Brunet and Dan Daoust to
Toronto for "future draft picks," details of which were later made public.
Just over two years later, Montreal got Gingras back from Toronto as the
future considerations portion of a November 1984 trade for Larry Landon on
February 14, 1985. Montreal lost Gingras for the second time when the
Canadiens traded him and the swap of a 1989 third-round or fourth-round pick
at St. Louis' option (St. Louis chose the third-round pick, which it later
traded) to St. Louis in exchange for Larry Trader and swap of 1989 third-round
or fourth-round pick (Montreal chose Pierre Sevigny in third round) on October
13, 1987. At the time of the trade, the swap of draft picks was publicly
listed as "future considerations." |
