Miscellaneous: Missed part of 1981-82 season with separated shoulder, an injury suffered in Minnesota's Oct. 12, 1981, game at Quebec. ... Traded by Pittsburgh to Los Angeles in exchange for the rights to Kevin Stevens, whom the Kings had drafted two months earlier, on Sept. 9, 1983. ... Had off-season surgery to repair torn cartilage in right knee in June 1985. ... Also played center in Los Angeles. ... Played 1985-86 season for Los Angeles under termination contract with eye toward unrestricted free agency on July 1, 1986. ... Replaced on recallable waivers by Los Angeles in February 1986 but refused to report to New Haven (AHL) after clearing waivers. The Kings, who insisted he accept the demotion before they would accept his retirement, placed him on the suspended list. Rather than remain suspended, he instead elected to retire. ... Was represented by player agent Ron Salcer during his playing days. ... Announced he planned to resume his education as a civil engineer at time of his retirement.

HOW HE GOT AWAY
FREE AGENCY: Hakansson never signed with St. Louis, instead remaining in Sweden for the next five years. After the fifth year, his draft rights lapsed, and he became an unrestricted free agent. He signed with Minnesota on July 22, 1981.
