1983-84: Was on Tulsa (CHL) team that suspended operations on Feb. 16, 1984, playing only road games for season's final six weeks. Despite adversity, the team went on to win the league's playoff title.
Personal: Son of former Arlington High School coach Eddie Burns, winner of the 1989 John Mariucci Award for lifetime achievement in U.S. high school coaching.
HOW HE GOT AWAY
FREE AGENCY: Toronto never offered Burns a contract, and he became a free agent after graduating from the University of New Hampshire in 1978. He signed with Boston on Oct. 10, 1978, but never played for parent team. Released by Boston after the 1979-80 season, he signed with N.Y. Rangers as a free agent on September 16, 1980.
