St. Louis lost his rights in 1972 because he sat out full season before playing college hockey. Took part in special training camp in Sweden with Toronto (WHA) during 1975 preseason. Was playing for Charlotte Checkers (SHL) when league folded on Jan. 30, 1977. Signed with Rangers' AHL affiliate on advice of fellow Rangers prospect Greg Hickey.
