| 1967 NHL DRAFT PICK |
Invalid claim
 | Made in
first round
No. 3 overall by St. Louis Blues |
|
| WHAT HAPPENED |
| Teams drafting in 1967 did so without the benefit of full NHL
reserve or sponsorship lists, that would enable them to determine which
players were eligible and which ones were already property of other NHL or
minor-league teams. The lack of such information was a definite risk, since
NHL rules at the time stated that any team trying to draft an ineligible
player would forfeit its pick in that round. Only one team fell into this
trap.. The expansion St. Louis Blues, with the third overall pick, made the
mistake of drafting Saskatoon (SJHL) forward Dale Fairbrother, the older
brother of former minor-leaguer Ron Fairbrother, without realizing he was on
the Portland (WHL) team's sponsored list. |
